Romney to attend NASCAR race this weekend

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) -

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney plans to make a stop at RIR this weekend.

NASCAR weekend officially kicked off Friday with thousands of fans converging in Eastern Henrico.

Still high from their Friday night fun, many fans have already set their sights on Saturday's excitement.

A spokesman for RIR says Romney wants the race-day experience. RIR says his visit shouldn't impact traffic - but some raceway regulars don't buy it.

Others hope for a chance to meet Mitt and ask him a few presidential questions.

But most say, he's a welcome addition to the NASCAR crowd... and are happy to cheer alongside him - headphones and all.

Romney is expected to arrive at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. He'll be coming from a campaign stop in Virginia Beach.

A raceway spokesman says they're still developing Romney's itinerary and it's not clear if the candidate will stay for the entire race.
