RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -
Here's the name you want to remember: "savingstar.com". Unlike other sites that allow you to print coupons to redeem in the store, this site banks the savings in an online account.
Setting up your account is simple and free. Enter the account numbers on your grocery and drug store loyalty cards. Then all you have to do is activate which coupons you want.
When you buy the product, the coupon amount will be credited to your saving star account. When you reach the five dollar mark, you can request a payout. The site can deposit to your bank account or to PayPal. You can also choose amazon gift cards or opt to make a charitable donation.
I've been using this site for two months and I already earned seven dollars and fifty cents buying what I would have anyway.
But here's where this gets really fun. Most of these saving star coupons are for products that have equivalent paper coupons. So essentially, you can double dip when maximizing your savings.
I bought all of these products during Kroger's mega sale a few weeks ago. The granola bars were $2.49. I had paper coupons worth 50 cents that doubled to a dollar bringing the price down to $1.49. Saving star gave me another 50 cents so my final cost was only 99 cents.
Some of the saving star coupons are store specific, like these from Food Lion, but it gives you an opportunity to save on store brand items that don't normally have associated coupons.
