Hokies create viral invitation for Obama

Posted: Updated:
BLACKSBURG, VA (WWBT) -

How do you get the attention of the President of the United States?

If you're Virginia Tech professor John Boyer, you create a YouTube video with 3,000 screaming students and try to make it go viral.

Boyer, who teaches World Regions at the university and calls himself the "Plaid Avenger," posted a YouTube video inviting the president to come to his class in Blacksburg for a Foreign Policy discussion.

"These students are fired up about foreign policy and the future of America, but don't take my word for it, just ask the class," says Boyer in the video as the camera pans to a screaming room full of Hokies with signs, vuvuzelas and American flags.

It's worked before. Boyer used a YouTube video to get Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez to screen a movie on campus last year.

The Obama invitation video had more than 13,000 views in the first 24 hours. With Virginia being a swing state and Obama recently targeting college students with campaign stops, Boyer may be making a convincing argument for the Commander in Chief.

No word on whether Boyer's class will also court Republican candidate Mitt Romney.
