Fire forces residents to evacuate downtown apartment building

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Flames and heavy smoke filled the air on Broad Street near downtown Richmond, when an apartment complex caught fire Friday afternoon.

Firefighters were able to get the blaze at 310 N. Adams St. under control shortly before 4:00 p.m. The fire was contained to the roof of the 4-story building. Nine units responded in all. Parts of Broad Street were briefly closed, but have since been reopened. Parts of Marshall and Adams streets are shut down through rush hour as crews continue to work at the scene.

No one was injured. However, residents were forced to evacuate.
