NBC12 VIEWPOINT: Here Now the Candidates:

By: Kym Grinnage email

Now that Governor Romney has selected his running mate, the presidential race has moved into full swing.  So what are our responsibilities as citizens from now until Election Day? Many of you already know the ABC's of good citizenship 101. But here are my thoughts:

If you are not registered to vote, register immediately.

Regardless of your political affiliation, watch as much of the republican and democratic convention coverage as you can.

In a calm and reasonable way, discuss the issues of the day. It's important to speak, but it's just as important to listen. The ground rules: no yelling and don't lose a friend.

Become familiar with the positions of both political parties, not just one.

Although this is a presidential year, the candidates that are running for Senate and local office will affect your quality of life more than the president, so become familiar with your local candidates as well.

And most importantly, make a commitment to vote. If you don't vote and you can, then you don't care and if you don't care, please don't complain.

The most important candidate in the upcoming election is you. So regardless of which side of the aisle you fall on, don't sit on the sideline. Get in the game!
