A man accused of threatening officers with a gun near Deer Run was denied bond Friday.
Russell Hornkohl is charged with aggravated malicious wounding and brandishing a firearm. A judge denied him bond at an arraignment Friday. He will be back in court in November.
He was taken to Riverside Regional Jail after treating his wounds. In his mug shot, he still has the hospital gown on. His arm is in a cast after being shot once by a Chesterfield police officer.
The incident began late Tuesday with a 911 call from his wife. She said Hornkohl beat her in the head with a baseball bat. When officers arrived at the home on Kimmeridge Drive, Hornkohl had already taken off, police said.
A short time later, police say he was spotted driving down Hull Street Road in the Deer Run area. When police pulled him over, officers say Hornkohl had a handgun, ignored commands, then pointed the gun at them, forcing the officer to shoot.
Hornkohl's wife is out of the hospital and is expected to be okay.
The police officer involved in the shooting is on administrative duties while the incident is under investigation.
