John Vithoulkas will be named the new Henrico County Manager, effective January 17, 2013.
Vithoulkas, currently a deputy county manager, will succeed Virgil Hazelett who last month announced his retirement.
"No one wants to follow the Johnny Unitas of county management, but someone must," said Vithoulkas, speaking of Hazelett.
Vithoulkas, who currently serves as deputy county manager for administration, will become the eighth county manager since Henrico adopted the form of government in 1934.
Hazelett served there for more than two decades as one of the most respected leaders in the region. His accomplishments make for a long list.
Hazelett said he intends to spend more time with family, but will continue to help the county if they call him to serve.
