A man is accused of trying to burn down his former place of work. Henrico police charged Ross Myers Wednesday for allegedly looting the Tire Station repair shop, and then starting a fire with diesel fuel.
Managers at the Tire Station say Myers was fired April 20, for stealing. They say that same night, Myers came back with two other men. Mechanic James Cairns said he couldn't believe the backlash allegedly inflicted by his former coworker.
"He was mad that he got fired, but who wouldn't be…However, I didn't picture him going and doing that," said Cairns.
Manager Kevin Crump said the power box was ripped out, disabling security cameras. Crump said the front door was broken and three monitors were busted in the office. A hole was also put through the wall, Crump believes, as the safe was getting unhinged from the floor.
However, the worst was yet to come. Workers say the floor was drenched in diesel fuel. A filing cabinet was set on fire, but the flames didn't spread. That's because diesel fuel needs very high temperatures to burn, according to Crump. He said there was about $20,000 in damage, and a major cleanup effort the next day.
Myers and another suspect arrested back in June - Dallas Wise - face arson, burglary and grand larceny charges. Police are still looking for the third suspect.
