Wells's Olympic journey begins, Taylor's ends

MIDLOTHIAN, VA (WWBT) - On the day that Kellie Wells had her first opportunity to show the world what she can do, fellow James River grad Shannon Taylor had her final day on the Olympic stage.

Wells easily won her qualifying heat of the 100m Hurdles, advancing to the semifinal round on Tuesday.  The former Rapid had to sit and watch the first nine days of competition before she could finally get the chance to come out and show her talents.  All three Americans moved on to the second day of competition.

Taylor saw her disappointing Olympics come to an end on the field hockey turf.  Team USA lost to South Africa 7-0, failing to qualify for the medal round.  In their five games, the Americans could only win one game - a 1-0 decision over Argentina which was highlighted by Taylor's lone goal of the games.

The men's volleyball team was also in action - but Richmond native Reid Priddy sat out to rest up for their quarterfinal game.
