RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Quanitra Hollingsworth calls herself an American. But she was on the opposing sideline in London Wednesday.
Hollingsworth is playing for the Turkish Olympic team in this 2012 Games. She was drafted 9th overall in the WNBA draft in 2009, but her WNBA did not last long. She was playing overseas in Turkey and Hungary, and decided she wanted to play in the Olympic games. She acquired dual citizenship with Turkey in March, and has become the team's starting center. The Chesapeake native has called the move "a business decision". She added that America is still where her heart lies.
On Wednesday, the Great Bridge High School graduate scored 11 points, but that was not nearly enough for Turkey, which lost 89-58 to the United States in women's basketball Wednesday.
Angel McCoughtry scored 18 points and Tina Charles scored 16 to help the Americans. Team USA has won 36 straight women's basketball games in the Olympics.
But Turkey is not done yet - they're 2-1 in the Olympics so far, and remain alive for the quarterfinal round.
