Crane operator safely brought down from crane after medical emergency

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Richmond Fire and EMS crews have brought a man having a medical emergency safely down from the top of a crane.

Crews responded to the 700 block of North 5th Street and Jackson Street just before 11 a.m., not far from the Richmond Coliseum.

The crane operator, at the top of the crane, was having some type of medical emergency — it was first reported as chest pains, but may be something else.

A rope was tied around the man, and he was able to safely climb down from the crane himself.

No word yet on what was the cause of the emergency.
