RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The 2012 Summer Olympics began with a bang on Friday night with the Opening Ceremonies, a four hour long festival that celebrated English heritage and welcomed the athletes to the Olympic stage.
Many fans of the Olympics in the Richmond area spent their Friday night watching the Opening Ceremonies. Richmond residents were at the Home Team Grill in The Fan for NBC12's Opening Ceremonies Watch Party and enjoyed the festivities. Chants of USA filled the venue as the Americans marched into Olympic Stadium, as fans look forward to the events that will be held the next two weeks.
The games begin with a splash, as Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte meet for the first time in the 400 meter freestyle. That will be one of the topics during the first NBC12 Watch Party on Facebook, beginning at 7:00pm Saturday. Just "Like" our NBC12 Facebook page and you can take part, as Richmond head swimming coach Matt Barany will join the chat to field your questions and offer feedback.
