ASHBURN, VA (WWBT) - Robert Griffin III has never taken a single snap in an NFL football game, but he's already the hero of Washington. Griffin took the field with his Redskins teammates on Thursday in Ashburn for the first day of the team's training camp, and received a warm welcome from the Redskins' fans in attendance.
Griffin spent a good portion of the summer working out with his receivers and learning the playbook. He even took some of his teammates on a trip to Baylor in Waco, Texas, to work out. The number two overall draft pick from this year is more comfortable entering camp, as he worked out a lot of the nerves during mini-camp and OTA's.
The quarterback is being looked upon to help Washington improve on its 5-11 record from 2011. Someone else who will hope to pitch in is former Richmond Spider Tim Hightower. The running back is coming off a torn ACL last season and now that he's healthy, is entering 2012 with something to prove.
The Redskins kick off in their preseason opener on August 9 in Buffalo.
