RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - VCU President Michael Rao will hold a press conference tomorrow morning at 11 am to name Ed McLaughlin the new athletic director for the Rams.
An extensive search process that spanned nearly three months will conclude early Tuesday with the introduction of McLaughlin, former director of athletics at Niagara University, at the Siegel Center.
In May, the Rams assembled a search and advisory committee to conduct the recruitment and hiring of a new AD after Norwood Teague accepted a position as the athletic director at the University of Minnesota in April.
VCU's interim AD, David Benedict, also left the university to join Teague in Minnesota.
McLaughlin spent five years at Niagara, overseeing a Division I athletics program with 18 sports, 320 student-athletes and a 50-member staff.
In addition to the multiple attendance records McLaughlin was responsible for, he also created the Niagara Sports Network, a television network that broadcasts men's basketball and hockey contests to millions of homes throughout the country.
Under his leadership in 2007-2008, student-athletes at Niagara posted the highest overall grade-point average in school history (3.30). Also during his tenure, the men's basketball team won an NCAA Tournament game for the first time in 37 years.
