MIDLOTHIAN, VA (WWBT) - Jay Woodson once worked at junior camps held at Independence Golf Club in the early 2000s when the club opened and now the Richmond resident is 18 holes away from winning a tournament at that same venue.
Woodson shot a four under par in Saturday's third round of the State Open of Virginia to improve to -9 in the tournament and holds a one stroke lead heading into the final day of play at Independence.
Ted Brown, who led the field after the first round and entered Saturday in a three-way tie for the lead, shot even for the day and sits at six under par and is tied for fifth, three strokes off the lead and well within striking distance. He'll be paired with Ji Soo Park and Weston Eklund on the final day. Park also sits at six under par, while Eklund is seven under and tied for third with Jake Mondy. Woodson, Steven Pierce (-8) and Mondy will make up the final group to tee off as the leaders on Sunday morning.
