RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -
This week's Politifact Virginia report looks at another attack ad by Crossroads GPS. The right-leaning group is hammering Senate candidate Tim Kaine with this claim:
Narrator: "Tim Kaine left Virginia for Washington and was a cheerleader for the stimulus and massive spending."
Kaine sound bite: "The stimulus is working."
Narrator: "But it actually wasted money, studying ants in Africa?"
According to the reporters, at Politifact Virginia, Crossroads claim about studying ants, in Africa, is indeed true, but that doesn't mean the entire ad is.
The ad makes another claim about stimulus funding, going to upgrade offices for politicians. Politifact called that claim "mostly false." Regardless, they attach both of those claims to Tim Kaine. According to Politifact Virginia reporter Sean Gorman a spokesman for Crossroads admits Kaine himself never specifically lobbied for either project.
"Well, Crossroads told us that the ad is not making the claim that Kaine specifically lobbied for the ants and the office renovation projects," Gorman said.
