RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Joey Rodriguez and Eric Maynor will be the first to admit that some of their most memorable moments in a VCU uniform hail from the CAA tournament at the Richmond Coliseum.
But that doesn't mean they don't approve of the school's transition to the Atlantic 10.
For one legendary ram, VCU's departure from the Colonial Athletic Association is nothing but bittersweet.
"It's kind of sad, in a weird way," Rodriguez said, "but the A-10 is a totally different animal. For VCU this is the year to go, they've got a great team."
Rodriguez was on a great team himself when the Rams took home the CAA title in 2009 behind point guard Eric Maynor. And while the former teammates continue to share memories from the unforgettable tournament run, Maynor may feel a bit more optimistic about VCU's transition.
"I'm not here anymore," Maynor said, "I had my four years then we leave. We're just looking forward to going and taking over the A-10 also."
Maynor also won the tournament with VCU in 2007.
