Baltimore, MD (WWBT)- Goochland's Justin Verlander threw eight innings of shutout baseball today against the Orioles, rebounding from his shaky All Star Game start.
Verlander was in control the entire game today against the O's, going eight innings allowing zero runs with only two walks and eight strikeouts. In each of his eight innings, Verlander was able to retire the first two batters.
This was a vast improvement from Verlander's All Star Game start in which he only pitched one inning giving up five earned runs in the eventual loss for the American League.
The Tigers were able to hold onto the lead and win for Verlander in the 9th, winning 4-0. Verlander improves to 10-5 on the season with a 2.43 ERA and 136 strikeouts.
Verlander's next scheduled start is set for this Friday, July 20th in Detroit against the Chicago White Sox.
