Young adults charged in multi-jurisdiction crime ring

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) -

A routine traffic stop lead to a major crime bust across two localities. Police in Chesterfield County and Colonial Heights have arrested several young adults and juveniles and charged them with committing dozens of crimes.

Police said they finally got their break in the long investigation, when an officer pulled over a car that ended up being stolen. From there, they say they began to unravel just how many people were involved in these crimes.

Police say the young adults (complete list of names and charges below) hit several convenience stores in town, taking thousands of dollars and causing thousands more in damage.

Police say they have charged the suspect now- four young adults and two juveniles face more than 50 felony charges in the city.

Chesterfield Police say those same four suspects, along with James King Junior and three juveniles- also hit the south end of Chesterfield County. There, they face 57 charges.

"They were just going from one car to another and going through unlocked cars and stealing things," said Sgt. George Burgess with Chesterfield Police.

Phillip Kidd's wife was one of the victims, on Sandwave Road.

"She walked out here and noticed the back door of the car was actually open a little bit so she got out here and noticed she had some stuff missing out of the car," said Kidd.

His neighbor asked to remain anonymous, but said: "They broke in my car and stole the face off my radio."

Chesterfield Police say they had 48 victims and they say these people took more than $40,000 worth of things. Many of the victims, they say, left their cars unlocked.

"The very next day we went and had an alarm system installed in her car for that reason, " said Kidd.

Police aren't sure why the suspects did it, but say they found several of the stolen items.

"We were able to bring resolution to these victims and determine who's responsible and try to get property back to the victims," said Burgess.

"I just hope that they learn their lesson and that they find other ways to have fun," said Kidd.
