Around 300 people in 11 buildings were evacuated from a building near VCU for about an hour due to a gas leak, according to Richmond Fire officials.
Gas lines were hit at 816 W. Franklin and 835 W. Grace streets forcing the evacuations from nearby businesses and apartments around 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Residents were allowed to return about an hour later.
Officials do not know what caused the leak, but did note that construction crews were doing work in the area.
