Richmond Police have launched a death investigation after a man's body is found in a backyard early Sunday morning .
According to police, a driver spotted the man's body on the ground in the back yard of a home on the corner of Park and Malvern at about 8:45 a.m. Sunday.
"Coming and seeing a crime scene was very shocking," said June Adams, neighbor.
Officers arrived in a matter of minutes and found the body of a man, believed to be in his early 30's.
Police haven't said if the man lived in the home, or how long they suspect the body may have gone unnoticed.
"It does seem a little bit strange," said Sarah Andrews, neighbor.
Andrews lives across the street. She and other neighbors say this area doesn't see much crime, so when neighbors see a man being brought out in a body bag, it does raise a red flag.
"I have young children, and my husband and I often sit out late at night I don't like the feeling that I won't feel safe in my own backyard or in my house," said Adams.
Police are calling the death suspicious, but aren't saying if it was a homicide.
"Detectives are canvassing the area and working really hard," said Richmond Police Spokesperson, James Mercante. "There's a lot of information they're trying to gather together right now."
"I've always felt safe and have never really seen anything like this is in this neighborhood," Andrews noted.
That's why neighbors and people in the area are keeping their eyes peeled for anything out of the ordinary.
The body has been taken to the Medical Examiner's Office to determine the exact cause of death.
Police are continuing to speak with neighbors and ask if you saw or heard anything, to please call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
