Colonial Downs cancels Sunday races

Due to extreme heat that is expected to remain in Virginia through the weekend, Colonial Downs has cancelled its Sunday card of thoroughbred horse racing. Races were scheduled to begin at 12:55 PM.

This season, racing on Thursday, Friday and Saturday has begun at 7:00 PM when the peak of the afternoon heat has long passed.

All activities related to the track's 15th anniversary celebration, which was slated for Sunday, have been rescheduled for Saturday July 14 including 15 cent admission and hot dogs, an animal mascot race, salute to past champion jockeys and the annual hot dog eating contest. Post time on Saturday is 7:00 PM.
