State Fair may have a new buyer

Posted: Updated:
RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

A farmer's advocacy group could soon be one of the owner's of the Virginia State Fair.

There are reports the organization is buying a portion of it. This only two months after it went up for auction.

The Richmond-Times Dispatch is reporting the buyer is the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation.

Mark Lovell owns the state fair after he bought it from auction for $5 million in May. That purchase included the 331 acres, the state fair's name, logo and other intellectual properties. A month after he bought it, he announced there was a interested buyer.

The paper is able to confirm Lovell and the leaders at the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation are talking, but an announcement about the purchase may not come until next week.

The Times-Dispatch says Lovell has until Friday to close the sale. There is the option to extend the closing date, but that includes an additional large deposit.
