Residents in New Kent will have access to a cooling station and potable water, as the county continues to recover from weekend storms.
New Kent declared a local state of emergency Tuesday, which allows the county to receive additional resources and support.
The cooling station will be open Wednesday at Fire Station #1 located at 4315 Courthouse Road.
Citizens in need of shelter or with non-emergency post storm related questions may contact the Emergency Operation Center at (804) 966-9677. For emergencies please dial 911.
The New Kent High School Shelter is currently closed, but on standby and will open if there are any requests for use.
Potable Water will be available at fire hydrants located to the rear of the Food Lion Grocery Store in Providence Forge, Food Lion Grocery Store on Route 60 in Bottoms Bridge, and the New Kent Visitors and Commerce Center at 7324 Vineyards Parkway. Residents will need to provide their own water containers.
Updates will be provided on the County's website at www.co.new-kent.va.us and on the New Kent County Facebook group page.
