The Richmond Flying Squirrels defeated the Akron Aeros Tuesday night, 7-5, after holding off an Aeros late rally in Akron, OH. The Squirrels got the series win and finished off their eight day road trip.
Johnny Monell led the Squirrels with 2 RBIs with a two run shot over the right field bleachers, his sixth of the year. Gary Brown added an RBI for the Squirrels and scored as well.
Starting pitcher Chris Gloor pitched 4.2 innings, allowing 0 earned runs on 4 hits for the Squirrels, but left in the 5th with a no decision.
Chris Dunning picked up the win in relief, pitching over 2 innings, allowing 0 earned runs on 4 hits.
The Aeros added three runs in the eighth, including a two run home run, but it would not be enough.
The Squirrels improved to 40-44 on the season. Richmond returns home tomorrow to start a three game series with the Binghamton Mets.
