Petersburg's Mason decommits from Towson

PETERSBURG, VA (WWBT) - Frank Mason was the best high school basketball player in the Central Region last year.  And now he's a free agent once again.

Mason opened up his recruitment, decommiting from Towson.  He will also attend Massanutten Military School for the next year to improve his grades.  Mason will then hope to play college ball in 2013.

Petersburg head basketball coach Rick Hite said that he has received several inquiries from some top programs, including Connecticut, Tennessee, Louisville, Seton Hall and others. But he said that Mason "needed" to go to the military school to mature and improve his grades.

Mason averaged 27 points a game last year, en route to being named the Region Player of the Year.  He led the Crimson Wave to two state championship game losses in his Petersburg career.

He had been committed to the Tigers since last June, and remained steadfast throughout his senior year, even though Towson endured the longest losing streak in all of Division 1 basketball.
