Benedict to leave VCU for Minnesota

Richmond, VA (WWBT)- VCU Interim athletics director David Benedict will leave VCU and head to the University of Minnesota, joining former Ram athletic director Norwood Teague. His resignation is effective July 10.

Benedict took over for Teague on an interim basis on May 12 and a search committee was formed to find the next Rams athletics director.  Benedict had expressed a strong interest in becoming the next athletic director on a permanent basis.

This week, Benedict was named as part of a committee by Richmond Mayor Dwight Jones to advise him on the city's efforts to find a site for the Washington Redskins training camp, which will be coming to Richmond next year.

Since taking over the athletic director job on an interim basis, Benedict has been a busy man.  In addition to being appointed to the mayoral Redskins advisory committee, VCU has made a move to the Atlantic 10 and hired a new women's basketball coach on his watch.
