UVA to consider reinstating ousted president

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (AP/WWBT) -

University of Virginia's Board of Visitors will meet Tuesday to consider reinstating ousted president.

The decision comes shortly after the deans of 10 of 11 of the University of Virginia's schools asked the board to reinstate Teresa Sullivan as president.

The deans said in a letter Thursday to the board that they strongly recommend that it bring back Sullivan. They said they think the board acted out of the best interests of U.Va. but that removing Sullivan would delay action on the university's pressing fiscal concerns and other changes.

Sullivan was asked to resign, effective Aug. 15. The move sparked outrage across campus.

The deans said they didn't offer U.Va.'s incoming interim president, McIntire School of Commerce Dean Carl Zeithaml, the opportunity to join their request, because it would put him in a difficult position. The board appointed Zeithaml as interim president after Sullivan's scheduled departure.
