RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - By: Kym Grinnage email
In the interest of equal time, I would be remiss if I didn't give a special shout out to the fathers for Father's Day. My buddy and I were joking about what does a dad want for Father's Day. Some want the day off, some want that shiny new lawn mower, a new shorts set, or a set of new golf clubs, but most of all, we just want to be loved. Love comes in many shades and the trick is to discover the shade your dad prefers.
Unlike Mother's Day, if you want to get a last minute reservation, it's not too late and if you need to get flowers delivered at the last minute, no problem. It's not that we aren't as popular as the moms, it's just different.
I will never get tired of hearing my girls call me Daddy. When I hear that word, it reminds me of them when they were 5-years-old. It's the same sincerity, the same need for attention and the same love in their eyes that makes you just want to say, well alright.
Dads are really special. I just enjoy seeing fathers with their kids being captured in the moment of spending time together. I have kept a phrase on my refrigerator for many years that always keeps me grounded: "You may not remember what someone said, but you will always remember how they made you feel."
And there are some of you out there who may not have known your dad, and others who through mentoring may have been a dad to some child in need. Father's Day is about remembering your dad, saying thank you to your dad or also remembering to be a good dad. It's also a good time to reconnect if that bond has been broken…forgive and forget. If you know a child that could use a father's touch, remember what it was like to have a great dad or remember what it was like not to have one.
So, Daddy, Happy Father's Day and to all of those great fathers past and present, Happy Father's Day! And we will always remember how you made us feel!
