A big protest is set for Friday ahead of a controversial vote at the Board of Health over new regulations on abortion clinics.
Governor Bob McDonnell recently approved new regulations that would treat abortion clinics like hospitals. Pro-choice activists are afraid Friday's vote could force the vast majority of abortion clinics in the Commonwealth to close.
This is the latest in a series of pro-choice protests. Thousands of people showed up at the Capitol in February to show their opposition to several bills in the General Assembly. About 30 protesters were arrested after they refused to leave the steps of the Capitol. Unlike February's protest, activists plan to protest silently outside Friday's board meeting.
Virginia could have some of the strictest regulations against abortion if these new rules are approved.
The protest starts at 7:30 a.m. Friday at the Perimeter Center off Mayland Drive in Henrico.
