Police said Richmond's most recent homicide wasn't a random shooting in the 3800 block of Chamberlayne Avenue.
A man was found shot and killed in an apartment parking lot.
911 calls started coming in just before 5 p.m. about a loud argument happening outside. Shortly after, more emergency calls — this time reporting that someone had just been shot.
"'Pow, pow, pow'…I just heard the gun shots," said neighbor Theresa Mickie.
"I seen the officers flying by and then I heard 'pow, pow, pow' and then a lady was screaming, crying," said neighbor, Latasha Ingram.
Neighbors jumped at the sound of gun shots, and soon, crowds gathered to see who died.
"Detectives do not believe this is a random act, they think it's an isolated incident," said James Mercante of Richmond Police.
Upon arrival, police said they found a man in his 30's dead in the parking lot of the Fern Tree Apartments.
He had suffered a gunshot wound to the body.
Among the spectators were some who said they knew the victim – and said he went by the nickname "Romeo."
"We was just real close, he was like part of my family…I think it's just tragic, you know, he was a good person, he will be missed, it caught me off guard," said Lakita Brown.
"You can see the resources rolled out, K-9, forensics, detectives, and officers... there are a lot of people here, a lot of apartments, and detectives want to know who saw what," said Mercante.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000. You can also text Crime Stoppers at 274637, using the key word "ITip" followed by your tip. Both Crime Stoppers methods are anonymous.
