Nine deadly accidents over holiday weekend

Virginia State Police say nine people died on state roadways over the Memorial Day weekend.

Police said seven drivers and two passengers died in traffic crashes. That's down from 2011 when 12 people were killed over the four days.

In at least eight crashes the driver or passenger was not wearing a seatbelt.

The counting period was Friday morning and continued through midnight Monday.
