Doctor Larry Benson is seeing this a lot with his teen patients. It is caused by excessive texting or excessive video game play.
The symptoms include pain, swelling and stiffness at the base of the thumb.
There is a simple way to prevent the problem is to decrease game play and limit texting.
Treatment includes ice and anti-inflammatories. In severe cases injections to the thumb tendon is needed.
