Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of attending a "Hope for the Warriors" gala in Washington, D.C. in honor of injured and fallen U.S. soldiers of war. There is no other word to describe the feeling on that night except thankful and proud. It was interesting to note that each and every woman and man who came to the stage to receive their award was not bitter or angry. They were proud to have served their country and the optimum word I heard was "service"!
Our freedom is guaranteed because men and women have served their country in peacetime and wartime so that all Americans could be free. We must also remember the families of those brave men and women who have had to say goodbye to their loved ones, knowing that it is possible that they may have to pay the ultimate price.
So especially this Memorial Day, we say thank you to all our veterans and their families for your service to our country and humanity. To those that serve now, we say thank you for making a choice to live a life that is dedicated to keeping us safe and trying to achieve world peace. And most importantly to those men and women who are not with us today, we honor your memory with dignity and respect.
