Midlothian, VA (WWBT)- Cosby hosted this year's Dominion District championships in multiple sports, and certainly used their home field to its advantage. The Titans claimed three of the four contested titles on Thursday night, winning every game it played in.
In baseball, Cosby met James River and faced Rapids team that had beat the Titans twice this season, the latest of which came by an 11-1 score. Cosby scored five unanswered runs in the final two innings to earn the 8-4 win, claim the district crown, and avoid the season sweep against the Rapids.
Softball saw the Titans hold off Manchester 2-1 in a pitchers duel, riding the arm of Chelsea Whitcomb on the mound. Both Cosby and the Lancers earn spots in next week's Central Region Tournament.
Cosby was also victorious in girls soccer, topping James River. On the boys side, however, James River and Midlothian battled for the championship. The fourth seeded Trojans struck first with ten minutes remaining in the first half. Finnlay Wyatt connected on a penalty shot to give them the 1-0 lead at halftime and Midlothian would add two second half goals to cruise to the 3-0 win.
Meanwhile, the Central Region track and field championships were also held on Thursday, with Atlee winning the boys championship and Cosby claiming the girls title.
The Capital, Colonial and Central Districts will all play their championship games on Friday.
