CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - Family members and troopers from across the state will come together in Chesterfield to pay tribute to those officers who died while protecting and serving.
Special recognition will be given to Trooper Adam Bowen. He died in the line of duty last June. Trooper Bowen had been responding to a call to help with a criminal investigation. That's when he crashed into another car in the intersection of Route 3 and Madison Drive in King George. The impact forced the trooper's car into a pole, splitting the car in half.
During Friday's memorial service, Trooper Bowen's official department portrait will be unveiled. It will then be dedicated and placed into the memorial gallery in the State Police Academy.
Friday's memorial is at 10:30 a.m. in the Virginia State Police gym. That's behind the academy on Midlothian Turnpike in Chesterfield.
The ceremony will also remember seven other troopers who have died over the years.
