North Carolina fiery crash closes I-95

A crash involving three tractor trailers forced a big stretch of Interstate 95 to close.

The part affected by the crash is I-95 North, coming into Virginia from North Carolina, near Rocky Mount. Both sides of the interstates were closed, but the southbound lanes are open again.

The fire chief says three tractor trailers and three other cars were all involved. One of those trucks had been carrying used cooking oil. That truck caught on fire and the flames spread to the other two tractor trailers.

The three truck drivers were taken to the hospital and two are in critical condition. The driver of the truck with the cooking oil is in a burn unit at one hospital.

Crews are still working to clean up the area where the crash happened. They say northbound lanes aren't expected to reopen until late Thursday morning.
