RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A water main break that caused road closures is clear.
Gayton Road is now reopen but not after a major traffic headache that lasted for nearly 24 hours.
This started Thursday morning when a water pipe near Gayton Road broke.
Crews worked all day and into the night to fix the pipe and reopen the road.
Public utilities had hoped to have the road back open around ten Thursday night, but work didn't wrap up until two o'clock Friday morning. This is not the first time something like this has happened. Public utilities says some of the pipes in the area are more than fifty years old. Another pipe burst in the same area two months ago, shutting off the water for neighbors. Fortunately, this time around, no one's water was affected.
The crews are working on a separate repaving project on Gaskins Road. Public utilities says unless one of the construction workers hit the pipe, we may never know what caused it to burst.
