Looking for a job? Get a pen and paper. We went digging and found the local companies that are doing some serious hiring right now. Here are the hot jobs and how to get one.
Elephant Auto Insurance is growing fast and expanding it's herd. The company has already hired 150 more people over the last year and a half, and plans to add about a dozen more every month this year.
"We're looking for IT software developers, customer service agents, claims handlers, marketing coordinators," said Deputy Director and Director of Finance Tim MacAleese. "We're looking for a number of qualified folks."
Salaries range from $11 an hour to the high five figures. Apply at Elephant.com.
"We look for smart people who are hardworking and have a lot of unique ideas and expertise to bring to our business," said MacAleese.
Construction and hiring are now underway for Amazon.com's new distribution centers in Chesterfield and Dinwiddie.
Sara Dunnigan with the Greater Richmond Partnership and RichmondJobNet.com tells us, "they have 35 positions posted now. Those are foundational positions, IT safety manager, HR roles. We would expect that's going to pick up quite a bit."
Amazon is expected to hire 1300 in all. Apply through Amazon.com. And if you don't see the job you want just yet, "go ahead and create a profile," said Dunnigan, "because the system is designed to send you email notifications if something else becomes available."
Au Bon Pain is an international chain of café bakeries and they're opening their first one in Richmond inside VCU Medical Center and hiring 50 people. Go to vaemploy.com to apply.
Health care systems are hiring volumes of people right now, according to RichmondJobNet.com.
"HCA, Bon Secours, VCU Health System, the Veterans Administration," said Dunnigan.
And they're not just looking for medical providers.
"They're looking for folks in accounting, customer service, facility maintenance," said Dunnigan.
RichmondJobNet.com also said Capital One, the credit card company, is hiring, too.
"Cap One still has openings in the hundreds. A company of that size, they've been doing a lot of interesting things, they've made a number of strategic acquisitions."
And finally, the Henrico County Sheriff's Office is hiring 30 new correctional deputies. Apply through HenricoJobs.com.
The Greater Richmond Partnership polled 500 local businesses and found one in three plans to add staff over the next year.
