RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - We have a sad follow up to a healthy Virginia bear cub put down because wildlife officials couldn't quickly find a proper home for it.
The story out of Giles County, sparked hundreds of comments on our NBC 12 Facebook page.
Well now, we've learned a second bear cub was euthanized for the same reason.
This case is unfolding in Patrick County. Another bear cub, found stranded on the side of the road. Despite a call for help from animal rescue groups, state officials say they were left with very few options.
As for the cub we told you about earlier in Giles County a state biologist says they exhausted all local resources to rehabilitate it, and did not feel comfortable giving it to a bear rescue group in Tennessee.
