Insect bites

COLONIAL HEIGHTS, VA (WWBT) - Most reactions to insect bites are mild, but Dr. John Clay says prevention is key.

Use insect repellant. Repellants containing deet are recommended. Apply to clothing as well.

Minimize the areas exposed by wearing long shirts, long pants and hats. Shirts should be tucked in.

Treatment depends on the severity of your reaction.  Treat itching with an over the counter hydrocortisone cream or calamine lotion.
