Inge set to sign with Athletics

Oakland, CA (WWBT)- On Thursday, VCU product Brandon Inge was released by the Detroit Tigers, the only team he had ever played for in Major League Baseball.  However, it did not take him long to land with another big league team.

Inge will sign with the Oakland Athletics, according to multiple reports.  The former Ram is coming off one of the worst seasons of his major league career, hitting just .197 in 2011 and following that up with a 2-for-20 performance at the plate to open up 2012.  Inge spent the first weekend of the season in the minors recovering from a groin injury he suffered near the end of spring training.  He broke into the majors in 2001 and spent every season of his major league career with the Tigers.  He was the longest tenured Tigers player.
