Detroit, MI (WWBT)- VCU product Brandon Inge has been released by the Detroit Tigers. The move comes just nine games into Inge's 2012 season.
The former Ram is coming off one of the worst seasons of his major league career, hitting just .197 in 2011 and following that up with a 2-for-20 performance at the plate to open up 2012. Inge spent the first weekend of the season in the minors recovering from a groin injury he suffered near the end of spring training. He broke into the majors in 2001 and spent every season of his major league career with the Tigers. He was the longest tenured Tigers player.
Inge had not appeared in Detroit's last two contests. His last action came on Tuesday, when he went 1-for-2 with a run scored in the Tigers' 7-4 loss to the Seattle Mariners. They have lost four in a row and are 10-9 on the season.
