Chesterfield officers struck by alleged drunk driver

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Some Chesterfield police officers were struck multiple times by an alleged drunk driver.

One of the officers is a little banged up, but he's just been given the all clear at Chippenham Hospital.

The suspect was taken there too, and he's expected to be okay. Now he faces drunk driving charges.

This started just before 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A Chesterfield police sergeant coming up on a one car crash near Falling Creek on Jefferson Davis Highway.

That's when police say the car's driver rammed the sergeant's car on purpose and then drove off down Jefferson Davis.

That's when we're told a chase began.

Police say about a mile into the chase, the suspect crashes into a parked police car on Swineford waiting for the chase to pass.

That's when police arrested the suspect.

That man, 22-year-old Courtney Orelein faces a drunk driving charge.

Police expect to add more charges as they continue to look into what happened.
