CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - Tis the season to tan. You know the sun can be damaging to your skin, but what about a tanning bed?
Dr. David Boyd is concerned his patients may think tanning beds are safer than natural sunlight.
They are not.
Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation damages your skin, whether the exposure comes from tanning beds or natural sunlight. This damage increases the risk of skin cancer and premature skin aging.
A safer alternative is a sunless tanning product. Avoid tanning beds, and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen whenever you're outdoors.
