Man in police custody following Richmond apartment fire

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Richmond Police tell NBC12 a man is in custody, believed to have set an apartment on fire Saturday evening.

It all began just after 9 p.m. Saturday when officers were called to the 2500 block of Rosetta Street for a domestic dispute between a man and a woman. We're told while the female was being interviewed by police downstairs, the man locked himself in an apartment upstairs.

When the building's smoke detectors went off, fire was seen coming from the upstairs room where the male was located.

Firefighters arrived around 9:15 p.m. and by that time there was heavy smoke and flames.

According to Lt. Robert Hagaman, multiple units were damaged in the fire. In all, approximately four families have been displaced. The American Red Cross has also been notified.

At this time, the suspect's name and charges aren't being released.
