Hamlin returns to RIR, prepares for Short Track Showdown

Richmond, VA (WWBT)- Denny Hamlin now lives in Arizona, but he'll always call Richmond home.  Wednesday the Chesterfield native was back at Richmond International Raceway, which will host his Short Track Showdown for the second straight year next Thursday.

Denny Hamlin's Short Track Showdown raises money for Hamlin's foundation, and all the proceeds go to individuals and families dealing with Cystic Fibrosis.  Earlier Wednesday, Hamlin donated $150,000 to the Children's Hospital of VCU and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Hamlin took some test laps on the track today with his number eleven car and several other Sprint Cup drivers will take the track with him next week for the race.  Tony Stewart, Kyle Busch, Jeff Burton, Joey Logano and Michael Waltrip are among some of the big names that will run in the event.  This will offer some local drivers the chance to race some of the best drivers in Nascar on a track that is one of the best on the circuit.

Hamlin will make his way to Kansas for this weekend's Sprint Cup event before returning to the River City next week.

Denny Hamlin's Short Track Showdown will get underway next Thursday at approximately 8:30pm.
