CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) – Amazon has started posting job openings for its new distribution center.
Several job opportunities are listed on Amazon's website, though less than a skeleton of a building now stands at the future Amazon Fulfillment Center. Right now, workers are still making progress at what will become a distribution center.
According to Sara Dunnigan with RichmondJobNet.com, the facility could change everything. "It has the potential to be transformational when you look at establishing the Richmond region as a center for warehousing and logistics," she said.
Dunnigan is constantly monitoring Amazon and waiting for the postings to show up. Now, she's lucked out by finding ads for the center's startup group.
"The team that they're building, I think, are going to be those people that are going to create really the foundation of the processes and the systems that the facility is going to need to be successful," she explained.
The hope is the majority of these positions will be taken by locals.
"I think they'll begin filling these higher level management roles initially in that team and then they'll be filling more of those distribution warehouse jobs I imagine within the next thirty to ninety days," she explained.
As construction continues, Amazon will start filling in those other positions, ultimately making more than 1300 new hires.
Those new hires will make a dent in the unemployment numbers. They now reach about 45,000 in the metro area.
"Go directly to the employer's site," Dunnigan advised. "Amazon has a very sophisticated website and I think that's where you're going to find the best and newest information about employment opportunities."
