Bowie, MD (WWBT)- Saturday saw the Flying Squirrels claw out a 12 inning win over New Britain to earn their first victory of 2012. Monday night the Squirrels were once again on the road, and once again able to escape with a victory.
Chris Dominguez had a big offensive night and Daryl Maday foiled a Baysox rally attempt in the ninth, as Richmond came away with a 5-4 win at Bowie. The Squirrels struck first in the top of the first, when Dominguez tallied an RBI single to score Tommy Joseph. After Bowie tied the game at one, Richmond went back in front in the fourth. Dominguez launched a solo home run to left, and Johnny Monell knocked in Juan Perez with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-1 Squirrels. Monell would later drive in Dominguez on an RBI single in the sixth, and the catcher would later score on Ryan Cavan's RBI single to put Richmond up 5-1.
The Baysox, however, would not go quietly. Manny Machado pulled Bowie to within one with a three run homer in the bottom of the seventh. The Baysox would mount a rally attempt in the ninth, but Daryl Maday came on in relief to pitch the ninth, and got the final out with men on first and second, notching his second save in as many games.
Dominguez paced the Squirrels offensively, going 4-for-4 with the home run, a double, two RBI and two runs scored. Jake Dunning got the win after coming on in relief for Mike Kickham. Kickham pitched 3.2 innings of shutout ball, striking out five and walking four. Dunning threw 2.2 innings, giving up two earned runs on three hits.
The Squirrels improve to 2-3 on the year and will look to reach .500 on Tuesday when the two teams meet at 7:05pm
