Henrico begins 10-year water flushing project

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A 10-year project to flush Henrico County's water mains is underway.

The massive project will improve water quality in the area, but until then, some in the county may find discoloration in their water. County officials say the water discoloration will happen during flushing and is not a health concern. You may notice water in the in the street, a drop in water pressure and water that is cloudy or discolored.

Officials also suggest to avoid doing laundry during 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Turn on your outside faucet during the flush. If it's still discolored for a few minutes, limit your use.

Officials have been telling residents to store water so they can use it for cooking and drinking.

Work begins near Darbytown and Williamsburg Road because the mains are older.

Officials say all residents received a letter about the flush.
